Privacy, cookies and marketing
Version 0.1 (pilot) · Effective 23 September 2026
Responsible operator
Shadrack Kabenla Kaku trading as Shadrack Kaku Trading Enterprise operates 31st Market. Contact [email protected], +233 55 298 5770 or KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana about personal information. Our data-protection registration details, once verified, are not yet available: registration with the Data Protection Commission is being completed during the pilot. We do not claim a registration that has not been completed.
Information and purposes
We use information you provide for accounts, orders, delivery, enquiries, returns and partner applications. This can include your name, contact details, delivery address, order records and information needed to resolve a complaint. We receive payment status and references from the payment provider. Payment credentials are entered through the authorised payment service; we do not ask support staff to collect your payment PIN.
We also use limited technical and security information, such as device/browser information and access logs, to operate the service and investigate misuse. Optional analytics and advertising technologies are described in the cookie section and use the choice shown there. Partner onboarding may require business identity, authorised contact, payment-account and tax information. We explain additional checks when requested.
We use information where necessary to perform or prepare your transaction, meet legal obligations, pursue a justified operational interest subject to your rights, or act on your consent where required. We do not treat acceptance of the Customer Terms as permission for every unrelated use. We do not collect personal information simply because it might be useful later.
Sharing
We share the information needed for the relevant task with approved payment services, hosting/support providers, fulfilment suppliers and delivery partners. A carrier normally needs the recipient name, contact, destination and parcel instructions, not your full purchasing history. Dealer attribution normally uses a referral reference and limited transaction information, not your address or payment details.
If the selected model makes a supplier your seller, that seller is identified before purchase and may need information for its own invoicing, fulfilment and legal obligations. The seller's privacy information will be made available. A partner may not use an order as permission to send you unrelated promotions.
We may disclose information where lawfully required to regulators, courts or authorised investigations, and to professional advisers under appropriate confidentiality. We assess requests rather than disclose entire customer records by default. We do not sell personal data.
Storage, access and international processing
Our current service-provider and processing-location information is DigitalOcean, which hosts the website and its database in London, United Kingdom; Cloudflare, which registers our domain name and answers requests for its address; and Google, which carries the email you send to our support address. No payment service or text-message provider is connected during the pilot. Where information is processed outside Ghana, we assess the legal and security arrangements and require appropriate contractual controls. Contact us for relevant information about the safeguards used.
We restrict access by role and use appropriate safeguards for the actual service. No system is completely immune to misuse. If a security incident affects personal information, we investigate and make notifications required by law.
Retention
We retain order, invoice and accounting information for applicable legal record periods, including longer periods where an unresolved tax matter or lawful hold requires it. Operational logs, abandoned enquiries and optional analytics use shorter documented periods where possible. The approved retention schedule is still being finalised during the pilot; until it is published, contact us to ask how long a particular record is kept. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it through the applicable process, including managed backup expiry.
Closing an account does not necessarily require deleting records we must retain by law. We explain a relevant restriction when responding to a request and do not keep unrelated information indefinitely under a general “legal reasons” statement.
Your choices and rights
You may ask about information we hold about you and request access or correction, object to relevant processing, withdraw consent where used, or request deletion where applicable. We may reasonably verify identity, using information proportionate to the request. We explain any lawful restriction and the available review route. Withdrawing marketing consent does not prevent necessary delivery or refund notices.
Contact [email protected] to exercise a right. You may also complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission; its current contact information is available at https://dataprotection.org.gh/. We do not require you to waive a regulatory complaint before we investigate.
Children and automated decisions
The purchasing service is intended for people with capacity to contract. Do not submit a child's identity information unnecessarily. Contact us if you believe information has been collected inappropriately. Where law requires consent or special protection for children's data, that requirement applies.
Security and transaction checks may flag activity for review. You can contact us about a decision affecting your order and request human consideration where applicable. We do not represent every automated flag as proof of fraud. Any future materially different profiling must be assessed and disclosed before activation.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use necessary technologies to maintain sessions, security and checkout. The current list, purposes, providers and expiry periods are two cookies, both set by 31st Market itself: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and connects you to your basket, and an XSRF-TOKEN cookie that protects forms from being submitted by another website. Both expire after two hours without activity. Optional analytics and advertising tools are disabled until the relevant choice is made under our proposed consent design. You can reject optional tools without losing ordinary purchasing access and change your choice through this page. At present we use no optional analytics or advertising tools, so there is nothing to switch on.
Blocking necessary technologies through your browser may prevent parts of checkout working. Changing a choice stops future optional collection through the controlled tools; we also handle any associated withdrawal request under the applicable rules. We do not disguise advertising trackers as essential cookies.
Marketing choices
We send promotional email, SMS or other electronic marketing only using the required permission. Choices are separate from buying, partner registration and essential notices. Each message identifies the sender and provides a working opt-out route. You can withdraw without a fee. We maintain the minimum suppression information needed to honour that choice rather than re-add you on the next purchase.
Changes
We publish a dated version and explain material changes before new uses where required. A changed notice does not retrospectively create consent. Existing order terms and stored consent records remain available for audit.
